Millennium Villages

The United Nations` "Millennium Villages Project" works with those areas most affected by extreme poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. By establishing these roughly 80 of these villages throughout 10 countries therein, the project focuses on making improvements in five key areas over a five-year period. These are categorized as:

  1. Agriculture
  2. Primary Healthcare
  3. Education
  4. Transport and Communications
  5. Safe drinking water and sanitation

The Millennium Villages Project seeks to help the villagers secure greater autonomy through a comprehensive distribution of aid in theses five areas. We believe this strategy to be crucial if we are to collectively achieve one of the principle Millennium Development Goals, to eradicate extreme poverty.

The Millennium Villages are currently host to around 400,000 beneficiaries.

The Millennium Village Project is supported and administered by the UNDP, Columbia Earth Institute and partners of the Millennium Promise.
